News From St Minver Parishes Cemetery Committee
The Cemetery Committee consists of Members from both St Minver Highlands and St Minver Lowlands Parish Councils.
The Committee was originally formed in 1995 to oversee the maintenance and general conditions of the four Cemeteries within the two Parishes.
Recently we have in conjunction with Mr Paul Drew of Drew Memorials, initiated a programme of Stability Testing of all the Headstones in the Cemeteries. This is a huge task and work has already commenced in the New Cemetery at St Minver with the intention of working our way through all four Church Yards, doing them one at a time. This work is necessary to comply our Insurance requirements and Health & Safety compliance.
Another issue that we are currently dealing with is the use of the layby at the New Cemetery, for Wild Camping. Initially the odd Camper parked overnight but unfortunately last Summer saw the number of vehicles increase dramatically to an unacceptable level.
We the Committee have explored various options to combat this problem.
After much deliberation, it has been decided on the following :
- Signage clearly stating “ NO CAMPING OR OVERNIGHT PARKING PERMITTED.
- We have negotiated with a local company, Alliance Parking Services, to Patrol and issue Parking Tickets where appropriate.
I would reiterate that Normal Parking in the layby to visit the Cemetery is, as always absolutely no problem whatsoever. Normal parking will not be affected.
Alliance Parking are only targeting Camping & Overnight Parking.
All maintenance workers will working in the Cemetery will have their details logged with the Parking Service.
